Fucking Awesome Hetalia Cosplay

liverandom asked: Hi, I really like your blog and I wanted some advice. My friend and I are doing our first Hetalia cosplay this year. I'm going to be Belarus and she is going to be Liechtenstein. I would any advice you can give me; I'm a stickler for details of my own costumes. I have hazel eyes & I'm not sure how my parents feel about contacts, but should I try to get them? And what color should I get for Belarus? Also, I have darker dirty blonde hair, should I try to get a wig? Any suggestions on color? Thanks

If you feel the details are that important, try for the contacts. But go about it the right way and speak to your optometrist. I (Mod 2) don’t wear glasses and I’ve never had my eyes checked out, and I use really cheap contacts that I probably shouldn’t so I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS AT ALL. You can use sites like Pinky Paradise to look for contacts but a lot of those are circle lenses (not all, but the majority) which look really odd on light eyes. 

And 9 times out of 10, get a wig. Chances are, you’re not going to want to style your hair each day and I’m going to hazard a guess and say things like color, length, and style of your own hair isn’t going to match. Mod 1, who cosplays Hungary, went without a wig to a few cons, but she had brown hair that she was willing to style each day in curls. To put it how she’s described it, “it’s a pain in the ass.” She goes with a wig now and it’s much easier.

For possible colors, it depends. Both Mod 1 and I think Belarus has an almost white-blonde hair color, but it’s important to note that that color isn’t going to look right on every skin tone and to make adjustments for that. Maybe go to a wig shop, which will allow you to try different wigs on, look at various colors and see which one works for your skin tone and then you can order a wig from an online shop (usually much cheaper than wig store prices) from there.

Also, remember that the shape of Belarus’ dress works best when filled out by an A-line petticoat. I recommend buying one. I also recommend a petticoat for your friend as well.
